Spain-Italy: Correct use of the Internet

Hi everybody!

Here we are again! This is our last post about our project. We have finished the research about the correct use of the Internet. A group of ten years old students prepared the pool helped by their teacher. After the correction of the pool they studied the results and tried to obtain some conclusions.
Finally they have written this "10 rules for the correct use of the net".
We think this experience has been very interesting and the students too. They are conscience of the importance of the correct use of the Internet.
Thank you for the organization of this Blogathon!

Latvia - Russia: "Why we need netiquette?"

Members: Russia, МОУ Гимназия 80, Chelyabinsk and Latvia, Penkule primary shool, Dobele region
Overview Netiquette, or Net etiquette, has become an essential part of communicating over the Internet. All to often people forget that they are, in fact, communicating with other people and not just some remote computer. A standardized set of rules--known as netiquette--has been developed to aid in human-to-human communication using simple text via a computer. Additionally, with the clever use of text characters, a general set of emotion-expressing icons and acronyms has been developed to further aid online communication.

England-Poland : Stay Safe Online

We saw the Safer Internet Day competition as a focus for teaching the children in both our schools about the advantages and disadvantages of using the internet. As the children involved were so young they had little understanding of the dangers using the internet could pose for them. They used websites to find out about the issues and then produced some posters to reflect what they had learnt. Our partner school carried out the same activity and we exchanged posters via email.

Bulgaria-Finland: The Web Is Full of Spiders: Beware

The team, preparing the online wokrshop, divided into four sub-teams to study and discuss four topics:
1. What are the advantages and drawbacks of functioning in cyberspace?
2. What are the similarities ad differences between real-life and online communication?
3. Posting a profile on an Internet site: what personal information one should and should not divulge?
4. Trust: when does it come? When can one start to trust his net friends?
Inquiry forms were prepared for each topic, containing specific questions, and inquiries were conducted in the kids’ peer groups in the two countries. Then conclusions were reached and discussed at the final video conference (workshop) through Skype, and reports and posters were settled on. In the course of the Project implementation, group and one-on-one chats, e-mailing, and video-conferencing were used. The topics were also discussed in classes.

France-Greece: Chatting without cheating

This entry for the SID competition 2007 is a result of a combination of efforts between two European schools. One from Greece and one from France. In order to identify the risks of chatting online, the students investigated and analysed the dangers that such a direct and amazing communication can import to their lives. After the major dangers were identified, they were presented through a series of small stories through the use of a powerpoint presentation. The main character of the story is a small sheep that represents the innocence as well as the ignorance of a new user chatting online.

Bulgaria-Poland: The initial 7 years...

This project is prepared with the aim to meet children of our school with the rules of NETIQUETTE. Many children have never heard this word. They don't know its meaning, they even don't presume that there are any rules that they should respect using Internet.

To this purpose we have made a brochure and a questionnaire. Other thing that we intend to do is to celebrate 6th February with a little meeting with students, where our team will present the rules more attractively. Where audience can ask questions and take an active part in the project.

Video-presentation : “ Net-book for successful chats “

Starting from their personal experience, students from a sports-oriented lyceum in Sweden and from an accountancy high school in Italy have felt the need of discussing and agreeing on some common rules for chats to achieve true communication.

After researching about safety and netiquette, the students have exchanged opinions and comments in a common blog.

The result was a set of 10 golden rules under the title “ Net-book for successful chats “.
A video presentation is the result of their joint work: its main feature is the variety of colours, messages, pictures which mirror diversity as richness everywhere.

Holding our Hands

''sharing a drawing, sharing a song, we multiply our school life"

Everybody, even our little pupils of 5-6 years old watch and hear about the 'bad' use of the Internet. What is safe, what is unsafe and they carry on them at school. It was no difficult to brainstorming ideas on what we can do about this. We exchanged ideas with our partners in Portugal, we decided on the final activities and we also agreed both on this: "As much as possible interesting stuff were given to the pupils, we create, as less as possible interest for bad and negative Internet behavior* " and this attidute starts developing from the early years and at least from the pre-school education.
So we started drawing on Paint, we sent it to our partners to finish it and let them free to add on our part whatever they liked. We found a common song in both languages and we recorded it half in Greek other half in Portuguese. We compined the whole work on a ppt.file and it consists a part of our e-twinning activities http://jiportodemos.ccems.pt/ledileo/activities.htm

* This is one of our main targets in our e-twinning partnership: LE.DI.L.E.O Learning from a Distance Learning from Each Other.

"Greece-Czech Republic: e-values"

stamp.JPG
Two primary school classes, (one Greek and one Czech) met each other through e-twinning and had multiple communications (e-mail, chat, skype). It was a great opportunity to integrate ICT and English, working on a project that we named “e-values”. The main goal for the students was to understand that communication on internet isn’t good or bad on its own, but it’s how you use it. The students explored many proverbs, common to both cultures, which could offer values in the face of internet communication dangers. So, in the end, both schools worked on scenarios about forest animals surfing on internet, and dealing with its dangers. The students selected three scenarios, drew the pictures and recorded the dialogues in order to create a movie maker presentation. Benefits:
• be aware of internet dangers and find ways of protection.
• develop the ability to be critical dealing with internet communication.
• use of English and ICT in order to communicate with their foreign classmates and with the competition’s audience (blog).
• be aware that all European countries have the same attitudes through internet and could deal with the same problems in a common way.

"Bulgaria-Poland: nethelloetiguette"

We have learned about the competition "Safer Internet Day" from eTtwinning. We have decided this is a good way for our students to learn more about safety in the Internet and to think of how do they communicate in the
Net. This competition strongly motivates students in their English and computer lessons at school. It also develops their ability to work in team.
Look at students' work and you can see rules for working in Internet presented in a very attractive way.
Working on this project helps not only the participants but also the work at the partner schools. We hope our joint work would be helpful for other schools too.Download file
