River Aggressions
Writing about the influence of human activities on rivers.
RIVER AGGRESSIONS
Some of our activities produce aggressions on our rivers: spills, riverside destruction and occupation, bed drainage, mining for gravel or non-native species invasions.
Look at some pictures of the Adaja river. Write a short comment.

The quarry pollutes the river with residues of the gravel extraction,it´s the worse for the rivers.
In "Cogotas dam" they have built another small dam to allow watering,to build this dam, they have cut trees down.

We work about the mining in the nature.
We research about the consequences the gravel extraction in the rivers, mountains...
Nowadays, there are a lot of quarries that pollute the rivers with their spiils.

Hello
Congratulations to your first posting! Looks great and I like the theme you have chosen.
Just one little hint, you might remove the first test message i have put there some time ago.
Best regards
Thomas

In a village of Avila (Mingorria) there is a gravel mine that is a place where make a type of little stone. The mine pollutes the environment because it destroys the forest, the river, etc.

Hi, I am Mioara from Bucharest, Romania.
The river in our town is Dambovita. There is a song about it that says "Dambovita, sweet water, the one who drinks from you leaves you no more". This was a long time ago. Since our town has a big industial zone, including medicine and dye factories, and all the used water was poured into the river, it became very polluted. A real stream of toxic waste (including sewage water) was crossing the city. About 20 years ago the river was rehabilitated. All the dirty water was transfered under the ground, through a gallery, while the riverbed was cleaned and cemented and clean water was run through it. Of course, the bad water still exists down there, but at least we don't see it smell it and nobody takes a swim in it.

hello everybody! My group and me have been working in river-bed drain of the Adaja. we have looked for several parts in the river and compared with other rivers, the Adaja has little water in his source. In our report, there is more information about this. bye!

Our river isn't very polluted because there isn't a lot of industry and factories. It's also a small river, so when people from other countries saw the photographs they thought it wasn't a river.

The people meet in the riverside to drink (this is a "botellon") and they throw residues (bottles of alcohol, glass...)because of this the river is polluted.

Hello! I've worked about river bed-drains. In this proyect we talk about our river. We were researching in a lot of books and other areas of this subjects, and we realized that the worst risk is man because we destroy the nature and build things that aren't important, for a good life. This is our most important discovery.
Bye!

The botellon is a very important problem for the river Adaja because young people go every weekend to drink alcohol next to the river and then they throw the rubbish in the river so they pollute it

In avila river there is a lot of bottles and rubbish because every week-end the young people do "botellon"(the teenagers drink alcohol in the street because it is cheaper than drinking in a disco).

Hello!
We think that our river is very polluted because we throw the rubbish to the river. For example: the bottles from the "botellon"(meeting of friends that drink). With the help of everybody we can save our river.

I think that this work is very interesting: the rivers are in danger because the men pollute much and we don't care about it.

Aggressions on rivers cause pollution in the river.
Animals suffer problems of health and the water is polluted.

the main reservoir in avila is the Burguillo and the Cogotas reservoir.the third picture is the dam.the dam is on the Cogotas reservoir. Dams have advantage and disadvantages, the advantages are that you can save water but the disadvantages are the deforestation, there aren't fishes, etc.

I think that the river aggressions damage seriously the health of everyone and damage the ozonelayer.

In Cogotas reservoir they are putting dumps in the river and many animals who live here die because the dumps are getting bigger and bigger. Also we put toxic dumps and this water goes to Adaja river that's why there aren't ducks. What do you think?
Posted by: Sara and Sandra | February 9, 2006 02:30 PM
We think the government should fine the people who pollute the rivers because we don't like to see a piece of rubbish when we go for a walk along the river and that rubbish damages the animals that live in this area.
We belive if everybody collaborates the river would be in better conditions and in some years' time we will be able to drink clean water.

I think some human activity are very bad for rivers. Rivers are polluted because people throw bottles, plastic bags...in them. the industry is very bad too because it produces a lot of smoke.
Posted by: Cristina Garcia Blázquez | February 9, 2006 02:36 PM
By some riversthey are building many houses and this is very bad for the rivers because these constructions damage the riverside. It is also a big problem because the water can flood .

hello!
our river isn't very polluted, but people have to look after it because the river is very important for animals, plants and peole. we throw rubbish when we are in the field.the fish and animals die for the pollution and we have to respect them.

I think that the rivers aggressions are very important because it is very a damage for everyone

Pure water is a renewable resource and it can to be pollutted by the human activities.
Chemical inorganic substances (acids, mercury, lead)and chemical organic substances(detergents, oil, plastic) poison the water.
Livestock can contaminate the rivers, the farmers use fertilizers that contaminate the water.
the pollution of the waters by nitrates is due to agricultural methods of intensive production, which has made the use of more chemical fertilizers compulsory..
Measures to aovid this:
Limiting the scattering of the fertilizers that contain nitrogen;
Setting limits to the scattering of effluent of farmer
origin.

hello! our river isn't very polluted but we have to help our river so that in the future it has pure water without pollution.

i think hat dams have big perjudices as:dams erode the soil and degrade the ecosystems. They cause deposition of sediments in the bottom of the reservoirs worsening quality of the water. The systems of irrigation can cause problems as the loss of biodiversity and impact on ecologial process(negative effects o the fluvial ecosystems, the soils,...Dams also have benefits, they control the water streams.
