The handheld is just like a desktop or a laptop. Just open up a WORD document. Instead of a mouse you use a little pen called a STYLUS. With the stylus wrire a litle report to your friend who has another handheld. Put a file name on your report and save it. The hand held is wireless and can communicate with other hand helds using BLUETOOTH.
Make sure bluetooth is switched on. You can now decideon a bluetooth password with your friend. send the report to your friend now. He or she will get a message on the device asking them if they want to receive the report. Tick YES with the stylus and the message will instantly arrive on the screen. This is oone way of sending messages. The handheld also has INFRARED power of connecting. Select BEAM on connections screen and then send. Report arrives. Other students who know the password can send the report to each other around the room. You now have a WIRELESS Local Area Network(LAN). You can file and send a chart on EXCEL, an image, a slideshow, an audio and a video using te same methods. The hand eld has Windows Media Player. You can add a storage card (SD)to save more files also and some handhelds have a camera.

Hello
What a cool machine. Can you explain more about witch school tasks you are doing with it? Can you record more how you are using it? Are you allowed to place to put your own things in it? To play games? Is it easy or hard to use?

Can you us it at home?

The handheld used in the clip and indeed in all our activities is an ACER n50. Handhelds have come down in price since we got them two years ago. However, if you have money to spend the HP iPAQ is a serious piece of equipment containing a cell phone, camera and GPS. I have this device using it as a master handheld to administer students' work.
Do you know anything about Wireless Identifiers(WIDs) or Radio Frequencies Identifiers(RFIDs)??????If you do you can use the handheld to track and give information on trees, books, artefacts etc.The idea is as follows. Write a word doc. about a tree eg .an oak tree, also insert an image of an oak in the doc.Place a WID,(programmed with the doc and image) in an oak tree, install a WID reader in the handheld. As you pass the oak tree the reader should read the the WID inthe tree and flash back the doc and image on your handheld screen. This is the theory , just like satellite tracking on lorries and trucks. I am at the early stages in this type of work at the moment but hope to control it in the next month. The possibilities are endless in the WID and RFID world. If you have any information on this topic let's share it!!!!!!!!

If we are to try one of these mini computers what brand and model do you recommend?

These devices are really mini computers.
Here are some of the functions they perform.
WORD is installed
EXCEL is installed.
You can record your voice and other audios.
They are WIRELESS
They have BLUEtooth so the children can create a wireles LAN
You can synchronise to laptop and desktop.
You can access Internet(under strict supervision)
They also have storage cards SD and Compact Flash.
Essays can be written at home and synchronised to school computers maximising school time management.
These are just some of the capabilities of the machine.

I agree with Bernt, very interesting indeed. Please tell us more about this device and how it is used.

Interesting. What´s that device called the pupils are handling?
