Penmanship is a great skill skill. Each year the INTO (Irish National Teachers Organisation) and the EBS (Educational Building Society) promote handwriting. Here we have our winner Joanna pictured from left with Mr. Seamus Long (INTO) and Mr. Thomas Stuart (EBS). A very pleasant function was held in The Meadowlands Hotel in Tralee, Co. Kerry where all prize winners were feted.

Handwriting Example Joanna started school in September 2007.

Credit Union Quiz

On Saturday 1st March we travelled to the Hibernian Hotel, Mallow, for the Chapter12 Final of the Credit Union Quiz.
It was a most successful outing. At the end of 60 questions we had 55 correct answers and emerged as Chapter winners. We now have qualified for the National Final. This final will be staged in Dublin on Sunday 6th April next. We are looking forward to this major event.

We have two contestants who are eligible in this age category next year so we look forward to the future with energy and confidence.
We would like to thank Dorothy, Manager of Newmarket Credit Union who took care of all transport and catering arrangements allowing us to totally focus on the task on hand.

The award celebrates good health policies in our teaching and learning environment. This includes action policies, healthy lunches, exercises, recycling, composting, waste management, growing seeds, flowers and plants, health food events like juicing days for the whole school community, exhibitions, artwork, poetry, song and report writing .

All our activities are aligned to our national curriculm through our central module Social, Personal and Health Education(SPHE) and these instructional activities and events link and integrate into the other national curricular areas.
For the past two years we have been working with Mrs. Ber Browne of the HSE in initiating, developing, producing and implementing our plan. It resulted in a major day of celebration at the GAA Sports Complex in Mallow, Co. Cork. Here we also got the opportunity to exchange health promotion ideas with the other schools that attended.
