The most famous streets in Bialystok

61.JPG
The most famous streets in Bialystok. Of course it's not La Rambla or Fifth Avenue but if you want go to a pub, club or shopping almost everything you can find nearby. If you'll walk down the street there're a few of most famous Bialystok's buildings: Rocha's Church, Fara's Church, City Hall and old houses (but I'll tell you in secret...not very interesting;)) Oh and there's something you should know..Basically the firts's part of the street name is Rynek Kosciuszki but everybody calls it Lipowa. That's shorter and easier ;]

the Cathedral in Bialystok

5.JPG

This is now the Cathedral. This beautiful neogothic church was built at the beginning of XX century by project of Jozef Pius Dziekonski. This church is very beautiful inside. There are too great stained glass windows. I think that the history of St. Fara Church is very interesting. In 19th century Poland was annexed by Prussia, Russia and Austria. Bialystok belonged to Russians. Polish people couldn`t build anything without Russians` permission... In 1899, after 39 year waiting period, city dwellers received a permit to build a little annexe to an old church in Bialystok...Later it turned out that this tiny annexe is many times as big as the main church. It is a "solid comment" on persecution that took place in Poland in 19th century... The "red" church this is annexe, the "white".... this is the main church. Now the church is the Cathedrale.

The Town Hall in Bialystok

The Town Hall in Bialystok was build 1745 ( the central part of the building) and the tower and wings 1755-1761. Now the area near of the town hall is closed for cars and there are some cafe gardens. In the Town Hall there is a museum.

A view of Karditsa

(cooperation by Anastasopoulos, , Koutras ,Thomopoulos)
