First global ‘blogathon’ for safer internet
Safer Internet Day will take place on 7 February 2006. It involves 33 countries, including Russia, New Zealand and Argentina; 89 organisations including 17 ministries and national authorities; and over 300 national, regional and local events.
Among the host of events taking place, Insafe, the EU network for internet safety awareness, will organise a global “blogathon” on this webpage.
A wide range of organisations active in promoting internet safety and special guests will post entries on the blog through the day. Everyone is invited to post comments on the day and up to 15 February. The blog, with content in several languages, will have a geographical focus that moves west through the global time zones, from New Zealand to Argentina.
Viviane Reding, European Commissioner for Information Society and Media, is the patron of Safer Internet Day again in 2006. She said:
"Blogs are a popular new way of communicating for young people and for all age groups, so it is appropriate that the Insafe network is using a blog on Safer Internet Day to show how using the Internet can be enjoyable, and what young people need to remember when blogging."

Hello Magda. Thanks for your enthusiasm! Preparations for the blogathon are underway-- you should have plenty of Polish material to read and comment on when we get started on 7th February.
For further information please see the SID section of Insafe's portal.
Best regards,
The Insafe team

Why is everyone complaining about English as the used language? Since this page will be used in 35 languages, how are you supposed to read the content from, say, Russians or Swedish people? My language isn't English either (it's Flemish if you really want to know) but only the people from two countries will be able to read my reaction if I would post my message in Dutch... And since the language of the Internet is English, it isn't that bad that you can understand it... That's one good thing for your safety: understand what you are reading! ^.^

I reckon it's stupid how no one can feel safe on the internet. Everyone should have the right to feel free to go on the internet any time they want without worrying whether anyone is trying to track them down or not. Everyone should have the right to feel safe on the internet!

Hy,
Posted by: alfredo | February 7, 2006 11:30 AM
