While crêpes originate from Brittany, a region in the northwest of France, their consumption is nowadays widespread in France. It is said that crêpes were born in this region because they couldn't grow enough wheat to bake bread due to the poor land.

The crazy schooboy's advice.(De Marseille pour 8C)

I'm not sure you will enjoy our sense of humour.
11601211121EkF65.jpg

THE CRAZY SCHOOLBOY’S ADVICE.

1) Don’t write your name on your copy : the teacher is fond of riddles.
2) If your name is a surname like Philip, write your surname in big letters
and your name in small letters: your teacher will appreciate your sense of humour
when she copies her marks in her book.Example: DAVID HERBERT Lawrence.
3) You mustn’t write the date on your copy: the teacher knows what day we are!
4) If you want to cross something out, use a thick felt-tipped pen.
5) If you want to demonstrate something in a Math exercise, don’t quote the theorem.
If you do , you can offend the Math teacher who will think you are sure he doesn’t
know it.
6) You mustn’t use a ruler when you want to underline something, it’s a waste of time.
Remember: the teacher is keen on waves.
7) If you don’t know what to write on your copy because you did not learn anything,
hide your copy behind a radiator, there must be a radiator in your classroom.
At the next lesson, especially if your teacher says she’s surprised not to have
your copy, tell her that she probably lost it and you are really disappointed
because you did really well last time and you miss the opportunity to get a good
mark.
8) If you don’t have enough stuff to write in your Philosophy copy, quote
an imaginary Russian author , like Pstokviszky, and write: “As the famous poet
Pstokviszky wrote….Obviously, your Philosophy teacher doesn’t know everything
about Russian litterature.

De Mme Stefanini (Marseille) pour les 8C!

To 8C. We've been talking about lying and cheating. I've written this.

Did you see our photos? Did you read the crazy schoolboy's advice?

This is our rap message.

Logo_Rap.gif

Think think pal

Do you act like that?
Deem you may do that?
You guess that's fun
You think that's fine
Think twice be wise
Tricks growing in your mind?
You'll be no friend of mine
Dumb dummy guy
Funny dunce bye
Fraud?That's what we'll ban
Oh listen do man
Leave that quagmire
That's my desire
Oh keep off crooks' bogs
Hey don't you want to?
You'll be what one mocks
Think our Masters are fools?
Forget it you'll get boons
That's full truth you elude?
Then that's yourself you delude
Think think do think pal
Honni soit le Mal
You want to be a mark looter?
You want to be a marked loser?
Your demonic inventions
Will entail your demise
So please no more inventions
you'll suffer no decline
Don't get any detentions
Act in the proper fashions
Elope with candid wings
Away from the cheatings
No we want no fake
Oh for Heaven's sake
Frankness is at stake
Th'right decision you'll make
Keep on the sound track mate
You'll stand up at Respect's Gate
Don't do anything you despise
Don't accept any compromise
With the dark mazes of your mind
Don't let yourself be tantalized
If you want congratulations
Avoid strange manipulations
If you hope for satisfactions
Don't cope with simulations
Don't foster any more illusions
We'll come to the same conclusions
Let all the poisons of your bogus science
Ooze back to the murky dens of your conscience
Let your trouble-fraught phony intentions
Give you the pangs of guilty sensations
Forget the rules given by the Ancients
Disdain you'll get as a retribution
Evade the jail of your snare
Knaves' lures, that's what no ethics bear
We do refuse any fabrications
Nor do we tolerate aberrations
We don't accept any abdications
To the rules of our institutions
We can give you further indications
What can you do? Give your contributions
To fight the scourge of falsification
A real ethical education
Will soundly lead to your reconstruction
That is our main preoccupation
How can you stand such recriminations?
We all also need reorientation
Help us for common edification
For your advice we feel no detestation
We too often deserve admonition
Don't let these lines slide into oblivion.

C'est les vacances! Vive le printemps!

t-paques_divers005.gif

In France, church bells are silent from Good Friday until Easter morning in remembrance of Christ. Mothers tell their children that the "bells have flown away to Rome".

clocheanime.gif

On Easter morning, children run into the garden to watch the bells "fly back from Rome". While the children play, the parents hide their Easter eggs!

xclocheville02.jpg

POISSON D'AVRIL!

arton97-100x113.jpg

Of course this is French for April Fools' Day, dating back to the 16th century when Charles IX, followed the Gregorian Calendar, decreed Jan 1st as New Year's Day, rather than April 1st (Solstice). Those who didn't follow the new calendar were called "fools" and sent invitations to fake parties and the like. French children fool their friends by taping a paper fish to their friends' backs - when discovered the child cries
"Poisson D'avril"
Why the connection to fish? Some believe that it's because the sun is leaving the zodiacal sign of Pisces at this time. Some think its because it was not permitted to fish at this time of year. Others say it's because some fish are pretty dumb and easy to catch!

Visite du club de rugby de Worcester

This album is powered by BubbleShare - Add to my blog

Our visit went really well. We met three First Team players: the Welsh Ryan Powell and Darren Morris and the French Thomas Lombard. After a questions & answers session, Thomas took the time to talk to our pupils in French.
Then, we got a guided tour of the facilities by the very friendly Chris Townhend. In the fitness room we met an ex Lickhill Middle School pupil. He had some fun signing autographs!
Finally we watched some of the First Team training session.
Pupils returned very happy. I am sure that they will remember this great afternoon all their life.

Last week the Year 8 pupils worked on the life and work of Gustave Eiffel. They were surprised to discover that Eiffel is not only the creator of the famous Tower, but also took part in the construction of the Statue of Liberty offered to the Americans by the French people to celebrate the centenary of their Independence.

I took these pictures Sunday 14th January. It rains a lot here but it is mostly the Welsh rain that makes our river Severn swell. The little town, Stourport, is also well under water! What is the weather like where you live? What about sending us a little weather forecast/summary next week?

Gâteau des rois

To the pupils of 8C and their teacher ... and to all in Lickhill Middle

epiphanie2007.gif

In France, in January, we eat "gâteaux des Rois" to celebrate Epiphany on Twelfth Night : that's a tradition to commemorate the Three Wise Men 's visit to Bethleem to worship Baby Jesus. There are two sorts of cakes. The more common one that is sold all over France is a flat cake filled with marzipan.

galette.jpg galette.gif

The other one that is mainly sold in the south of France is a crown-shaped brioche covered with grains of sugar and adorned with candied fruit.

In France, bakers hide in the cake a dried broad bean and a ceramic figure representing a character in the crib.

Animation1.gif

When they sell their cakes, bakers give gold paper crowns to customers. The "Gâteau des Rois " is eaten with some cider or champagne. When you invite some guests to eat some "gâteau des Rois", one will find the broad bean. He or she will become the King or the Queen , wear the paper crown and have to buy you another "gâteau des Rois"!

couronne1.gif

The tradition ends at the end of January.

Charleigh (8B) à Marie-A
Bonjour Marie-Annie.
J’aime faire ça parce que ça me rend heureuse. J’aime l’atmosphère de Noël. Et toi?

Luke J. (8B) à Jean-Eudes
Cher Jean-Eudes
