myEUROPE is a Web-based project
which aims to help teachers raise their pupils' awareness of what it means to
be a young citizen in Europe. By involving a network of more than 8000 schools,
the diversity of Europe is brought into the classroom via the Internet, since
the path to living together in Europe starts at school.
This blog was open following an initiative of the myEUROPE teachers and classes
to express their solidarity to all the colleagues who were affected by the wildfires
in South Europe and especially in Greece. The myEUROPE Blog continues the effort
to bring teachers and students in Europe closer by publishing some of the emails
that are exchanged on the myEUROPE mailing list.

Greet Meesen from the Netherlands will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of her collaborative web-based project for handicapped or hospitalized children.

Mixed Talent proposes themes, topics, and activities through eLearning, because the internet is easily accessible for those who depend on their home environment for collaborative learning. The central theme of this celebration is: Durable WebEducation & eLearning for Students with Physical Challenges & Medical Needs.

“Durable eLearning” is an eLearning experience on the basis of web-based programs, providing eLearning experiences from which students may also draw on later in their lives. Activities on the website: candle-art, courage-art, freedom by inventions. Aim of the project is to develop a MixTalent-path of thinking+feeling+doing = being active. Keeping the wondering and learning, the development of our personalities going. That can be difficult when you are in hospital, recovering at home, or in the transitions of taking part of a fully functioning daily life again. The core of our eLearning program is: with minimum physical energy and maximum social activity achieve intellectual and emotional mobility. To visit the website, go to:
http://www.macadam.nl/mxJubel_eBk/mxJubel1W_eBk.htm

With the students Greet will be celebrating the anniversary by presenting the eBook “A landscape of Tolerance and Diversity.” Greet says: "For me tolerance has been always very important. Living from childhood with physical limits; giving and getting room to others and myself made it possible to develop and grow. Wondering “why, how – to try” , is for me, the root of Tolerance and Diversity. That’s why I have chosen this theme to celebrate our 10th anniversary.

Everybody is working on the same topics, according to age/possibilities/interest". In november 2008 we will present our Landscape as a free eBook to the world again - as we did in 2007 with the MixTalent-Troubadours eBook. Mayor Amy Koopmanschap of the Dutch city of Diemen will help me to organize a special event around this presentation. And all participants will receive a Celebration-certificate on the International day of Children’s Rights on 19 November 2008. Local Dutch tv will be covering the conference.
European Schoolnet is organising an event in October (14-15-16 October) at the Women Forum in Deauville called the Sci Tech Girls. The Sci Tech Girls objective is to support and encourage young women to pursue scientific studies. A specially selected panel of female students will have the opportunity to think about the problem of cultural and sociological barriers existing in the field. Only 12 young women from secondary schools will have the chance to participate.

We would like to invite a high school from the United Kingdom to participate at the event by selecting four girls interested in maths, science and/or technology topics with an accompanying teacher to take part at a debate with a special panel of women from the fields of science and technology renowned for their remarkable training and career paths.

Please find in attachment a letter with all the details concerning the Sci Tech Girls. The contact person for this project is Maïté Debry (maite.debry@eun.org).

Eurocompetition, the poster competition for kids to celebrate the euro tenth anniversary, is now open!

Young people from the euro area and Slovakia are invited to join in the euro's 10-year celebrations by designing a poster on the theme "10 years of the European Union's Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) and the euro" and uploading it to the online gallery at www.eurocompetition.net.

The posters should express the participants’ thoughts on what the euro has done for European citizens, what the benefits of the monetary union are and what they think the future holds for the single currency.
Visitors to the Eurocompetition website can also receive the Euro Kid’s Corner poster, a promotional poster available in the 12 languages of the euro area and Slovakia.

The Eurocompetition website provides materials for teachers to connect their history, geography or even language lessons with the euro, EMU and the economics underlying it.

The competition will stimulate debate about the euro within the classroom, and with parents and peers. The debates should raise awareness of the changes the euro has triggered in our daily life, and also encourage thinking about the benefits of a single currency.

The competition is open until 31 December 2008.
The Eurocompetition team wishes you good luck and look forward to seeing your creative ideas on the euro!

---------------

ENO Programme invites you to an exciting event. A new school year will be opened in a special way: planting trees and seeing stars! ENO Tree Planting Day 2008 will be organised on the 22nd of September, the day of autumnal equinox. The length of the day is the same everywhere, with everyone worldwide receiving 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of night. As the international day for peace falls a day before, this is also our contribution for peace.

Tree planting is important for us. Firstly, it reminds us of the nature and the importance of environmental protection. Secondly, it is a symbol for the international co-operation. Star observations is a new activity. This day will start our preparation for SciFest 2009 event that will take place in Joensuu, Finland.

Your contribution is important! Your trees will be a part of ENO 2008 Tree Planting Campaign. Our aim to plant at least a million trees by the end of 2008, as a part of Billion Tree Campaign by United Nations Environment Programme.

How to get involved? At first register your school/group online, by 15th of September 2008. You will receive login and password via email in order to submit your information afterwards to ENO Tree Database. Each participating school or youth group will receive a certificate. Find instructions, more information and material (our play, songs etc) for the day on the web. Join us – day and night!

Francisca Urio - the patron of the non-profitmaking Foundation Take-My-Hand e.V. would like to invite you to take part on creative activities whose earnings will be spent to help poor children in Europe and worldwide. She calls on all children and youth of Germany and other European countries to participate. Within a fixed time limit the competition action: take my hand 2008-09 has been written out for advertisement. The children and youth should plan and carry out types of competition actions hopefully supported by their parents, teachers and also by local companies. The earnings
which will arise from the competitions will benefit poor children. The most creative and successful groups will be awarded autographs by Francisca Urio and will get the chance to attend her concert.

The objectives of the non-profitmaking Foundation Take-My-Hand e.V.
If we intend to change something in this world to a better way, then we have to start by our children because they are the future. The main goals of the activities of Take-My-Hand e.V. is to improve the living conditions of children in the world. Besides the financial support on underprivileged children in our countries as well as abroad, we find it quite necessary that children and young people should be sensitized to consciousness of attain understanding what type of life situation and hardship children in other parts of the world face. This will in addition help in motivating them to learn to share with those who are in need. Our society should bring up children and youth who through their ideas and talents can contribute to social welfare work. They will hereby enjoy to witness the results of their personal active engagement and realize that it is indeed a great help for the poor and weak people in the society.
