Final remarks - Secondary School Madeira Torres - Torres Vedras - Portugal

In general, we all love it. It was very hard for all but we did it. And with same success: in a scale of 1 to 5, students, teachers, attendees and investigators evaluate 4,6 in average. The highest critic was that they didn't have time to see all the experimental activities in the NanoDay. The other critic his that the project must go on: no need for more money, only to create a knowledge base with what we all pilot schools already know.

Less positive points
The on line games were not useful for us;
We had a age problem: our students as 13 to 15 years old. Which means that we have to adapt a lot of the materials: it occurs during the first year;
Short time training in Brussels;
We didn't do collaborative work with other schools primarily because with didn't know nothing about it: each one work by themselves: I don't know why, but it happen with us: perhaps a more collaborative platform, similar to facebook? Don't know.
Our facebook was not positive: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_208165805861202&ap=1
Time project: only two years!? Now we are ready to start, with the knowledge we have gather so far.
We didn't have time to blog, only now its possible to do it, and we were learning how to do this project: now we have things to say and discuss with other schools. An we participate in a few meetings: time time time!!!

Positive points
Team support: in the beginning by the European Schoolnet team and, during the time work, special Luisa Filipponi;
Many schools interested near my school;
Students high motivation;
A site with 21235 visits: http://moodle.madeiratorres.com/course/view.php?id=588
New activities: nano solar panel; graphene and carbon tubes sculptures (will be shown in the video)
Nanoconference organization: NanoDia Madeira Torres (see on the site);
Creating relations/discussions between students, teachers and investigators;
Number of students/teachers involved: 100/20;

Future
Practice more with students the activities already in place: studying the Gratzel solar cell kit in more detail, and do research with students;
Develop a few more activities;
Organize a European Teacher Training course (1 week);
Engage in other projects with enterprises, school and university: we are thinking in enGenious.

See you all!

Students time for Learning Nano

My Students Documentary Studies and Ideas about what means Nano and current Nanoapplications.
And also Science Questions and new Answers about the impacts of Technology.
At the begining my students learning about NanoTech using Nanoyou Didactic Resources:
Virtual Dialog – Nano Role Play “Revolution for the Light Bulb”.
Their ideas about need for light from different teoretic positions: as a “Scientist”, as a "Consumer", and write their answers and ideas about The Dilemma in their work individual student sheet. They discuss their oppinions with classmates, engage in discussions on NanoTech Applications (needs and solutions) and share opinions.
And also images from my students time for studing NanoTechnology using Nanoyou Didactic Resources:
Time Machine – Need for Communication (History of Discoveries – Electronic Devices).
With that didactic resource they study the history of the phone and could see how solutions to human need have evoluated over time. And improve their theoretical and experimental knowledge in science and electronics.
We have 8 correct answers at first page Science Questions so we can proceed the next page with moments from Communication Discoveries. My students from equipe nano improve the other students knowledge about the evolution of basic concepts.

NANOYOU at “Augustin Maior” Communication Technical College” Cluj-Napoca

Our students after studing Nanoyou resources, news, experiments, applications in medicine, electronics devices, computers, researches in materials science try to make all they learn in presentations for other classes, studies to discuss at science lessons with examples and applied ideas. All these they gather and open our “Nano web blog Pages
http://nanotechaugustinmaior.wordpress.com/

My students will post what they will study about Nanomaterials Electronics, Bio-nano generators, their great interest in learning nanoelectronic devices that could detect the concentrations of biomolecules in real time for use as medical diagnostics, about nanosensors. About new researches in Electronics which need to be rigorously tested and modified to be "space hardened" or resistant to the outer space environment (vacuum, microgravity, thermal extremes, and radiation exposure) and about microsats and Tiny satellites.
My students make a documentation and present to other students in school their studies about NANO WIRES FOR BETTER CONDUCTIONS. They discuss what means that for nanosatellits and for future discoveries. The existence of a set of standard components to meet the specific basic functions nanosatelites would significantly reduce both costs and time to design and assemble a space mission. By customizing each application nanosatelites the specifics can be started and completed in minimum time specialist tasks in areas such as Environment, agriculture, security, communications, science.
And also on the web will be posted the next practical lessons using nanoyou student worksheets for experiments.

International Nanoday in Bánki (Hungary)

Our school has been working on how to reform the methodology of teaching physics as a subject with the help of 6 different international schools from Italy, Greece, Turkey, Latvia, Portugal, and Czech Republic. All of the school has been taken part in the project under the name of “Comenius Multilateral Partnerships between Schools”
Our main goal is to discover the different misconceptions occurring among students during the teaching process, and also to get rid of these with the help of the present-day used means of modern media.

Nanoyou Activities in TED Afyon College

As a pilot school we started with introduction of nanotechnology to our students. First of all we use the power point presentations to introduce nanotechnology at 6,7 and 8 grades. Then we used the 5 videos. The video which is related with nano cell phone is admired by the pupils, they asked that when can we buy this phone. After we introduce the nanotechnology and its applications in different areas, we contiue with the experiments. We bought a kit which contains material to do nano experiments. We did lotus effect experiment, gold colloids experiment, ferrofulids experiment. Beside this experiments we use water and milk experiment to show the colloids in liquids. And we also used waterproof spray to create waterresistant surfaces on woods and textiles.
