Prisons in Crisis

Public confidence in the prison system is not helped by the inhumane conditions to which prisoners are exposed as we have recently watched on TV. Prisoners who have suffered unjust treatment while serving their sentences are hardly candidates to reabilitation. From my point of view, the purpose of the penal system is, not to reabilitate, but to keep criminals away from the rest of society. That´s the core of the problem- the mind-set of the prison system towards these men. While it may be true that incarcelation alone does not instill new values my question is: Is real reform possible? And if so, what types of programmes are being carried out to rehabilitate criminals in order to teach them to be law-abiding and productive after their release?.

Solving the Garbage Glut - With Compost

Solving the Gargage Glut- With Compost As Mankind’s garbage piles up, it poses one of the toughest dilemmas on our age. Modern Technology, adept though it is at producing garbage, seems quite at a loss when it comes to getting rid of it. The obvious, time-honoured solutions are fraught with problems. Since dumping the garbage may polute neighboring groundwater, many countries have forced garbage dumps to close. And burning the garbage can realese toxic chemicals and leave behind ash, both of which present own disposal problems. High-technology incinerators are thus unpopular in many areas. What alternative is left? Some suggest a natural way of getting rid of solid waste-a sort of biological fire called composting. Like fire, composting reduces organic matter into a number of by-products releasing heat in the process. The by-products of composting can be quiet useful. The gases and heat may be used as sources of energy. And the solid by-product, humus, is a valuable soil fertilizes in agriculture. Each of us can cooperate wiht whatever recycling laws are in effect where live but we would like to know if there are many plants treating garbage as effectively as this system in the E.U. countries.

Θα μπορούσε να συμβεί κάποια αλλαγή στη χώρα μας, αναφορικά με την Εκπαίδευση των Κωφών;

Security

A long time ago there were six states which made a pact to form the European Union. Today the states are 25, one more beautiful than the other. In Europe there is nothing much to change, but something to adjust . A thing to start from is more control on poor neighbourhoods so there are no more victims.

Safeguarding our stability respecting tolerance and solidarity

We have heard that In France there is a system of control on immigrants who come from countries that are outside the European Union and that the country has constant control over the situation about non-EU movements. Apparently their Government has decided that the number of non EU people cannot be larger than a certain percentage of the French population.
We propose to apply this rule to all European Union countries, too. Every single state should not allow more than for example 1/5 of each country’s population.
When that percentage is overcome, another country can act as a host. If this cannot be done the people should unfortunately return to their own country. This would mean putting solidarity into practice at the same time safeguarding our own stability.
