In need of new learning strategies

One of the biggest problems teachers in Slovenia are faced with today are the working habits that seem to be lacking in many students. Is this a problem in most European countries or is it a matter of individual schools? By not studying, pupils get low marks and do not reach the requirements needed to enrole into the secondary schools of their choice. The matura exams have lost their significance and play a minimal role in education.
Whose fault is it that it has come to this - the teacher's, the parents' the child's?
Could you let me know about the situation in your country?
I believe this to be a very important matter for the future of our children.

Violence in schools

What can be done to decrease violence in schools across Europe? We speak of peace in the world...but how can peace be achieved when we can't keep the peace on our own doorstep or with our own neighbours? Is man such an egoist that he cares only for himself? We all remember the saying ''So unto others as you would have others do unto you.'' Are these just words? How can we expect the young generation to take the right road towards peace when we as adults do not and cannot give them the guidance they need to get there?
